Today was the first day of school for the girls (Alex is still in Prek 3 mornings/week) and they requested tacos for dinner. It’s rare that my 1st and 4th grader actually *request* anything except cookies, so we had tacos for dinner!
I’m not going to show you how to assemble a taco (duh, right?), but I want to tell you about how to make your own taco seasoning. Make a batch of seasoning and it will keep in the pantry for months, then it will always be ready for you.
Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix
4 tablespoons chili powder
3 tablespoons paprika
3 tablespoons cumin
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Store at room temperature in an airtight container.
To use the seasoning:
Brown 1 lb. of all white ground turkey. Add 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix, 1 cup water, and 1 1/2 tsp salt to the ground turkey. Simmer, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the turkey, and there is not much liquid left. Taste, and add more salt if necessary.
